Leadership

THE CHAIRMAN,JOSEPHAT NGETA MUVETA

A healthy environment is a sure guarantor of sustainable livelihoods and safe communities. For decades, Mwingi region has witnessed unprecedented levels of environmental degradation. Human ignorance and greed have exposed communities to hazardous climatic extremes. From erratic rains to prolonged droughts, Mwingi residents have been treated to calamities of economic proportions.

It takes a bold move to rally communities to commit their time and resources to undertakings whose outcomes are in the distant future. Reversing decades of climate injustice is not an easy task but an endeavour calling for unwavering focus, unqualified support and an impeccable sense of patriotism. To consider the next generation and be empathetic to it on account of how we presently handle the environment is the epitome of selflessness. This is what Mwingi Green Ambassadors is consistently doing.

Our organisation aspires to lead communities into caring for nature as the sole host of all livelihoods. When humanity accords the environment the dignity it deserves, it rewards its dependants in countless ways. Let us all join hands and together get justice for nature. It is within our reach, individually and collectively.

THE SECRETARY GENERAL, MARY MARIA KATIWA

Mwingi Green Ambassadors is leading from the front in crusading for responsible utilisation of our region’s natural resources. The decades of wanton destruction of our forests and water ecosystems call for a decisive action aimed at reversing the dangerous trend. The organisation has perfectly positioned itself as the voice of reason by offering a platform for the resident communities to collectively address the ills bedevilling mother nature, on whom all livelihoods are anchored.

As the Secretary General, I am proud of being among those who are entrusted with showing the members of our hallowed society the way. I am equal to the task and a green Mwingi whose livelihoods are embedded in a healthy environment is achievable.

THE TREASURER, STEPHEN MUTEMI MUSYOKA

I am truly thankful for the milestones that we have attained as an organisation. With passion, dedication and zeal ,the leadership of Mwingi Green Ambassadors is ready to go beyond words and transform vision into visible deeds. Changemakers are people who do not just talk about change but persons who roll up their sleeves, get their hands dirty and will not slacken until the desired change manifests. With the vagaries of climate change, biodiversity loss and the worsening challenges of water scarcity in Mwingi, we have recognized that our greatest strength lies in unity. When we stand united, we will be able to protect the land we live on and preserve the resources needed by future generations. Climate justice reminds us that all communities have the right to a healthy environment, clean water and a chance to build a safe and decent future.

By taking good care of our forests, protecting wildlife and using our natural resources in a responsible manner, we are strengthening our communities. Through combination of water harvesting, improved and eco-friendly animal husbandry and mutual support among members of the rural communities, we become more resilient and create opportunities for sustainable development. These endeavours are not distinct; they are intertwined. True and lasting change starts within our communities. When people are empowered with knowledge, practical skills and a mutual sense of purpose, they become strong custodians of the environment. Every tree planted and every drop of water saved bring us nearer to restoring the balance between nature and people.
